The Trump administration’s attack on migrant children continues. The depths of inhumane policies coming from Stephen Miller’s office seem to have no end. This administration has not been satisfied with kidnapping children, abusing them in cages, denying them basic human courtesies, prohibiting basic health care needs and restricting their access to learning and exercise.
Now, it seems, we will condemn some to death by cutting off their access to health care here in the United States and forcing their families to return home where medical treatment is not available. Children suffering from cancer, MS, cystic fibrosis, etc., are no longer eligible to stay in this country and receive treatment. Their families have been told to stop medical treatment and make arrangements to leave the country within 33 days or risk deportation.
Who comes up with these ideas? Do they pretend to play no part in what will be the ultimate, untimely death of these children?
And, just in case the immigrant population hasn’t gotten the “we don’t want you message,” we’re going to now declare children born to U.S. service members and government workers overseas with green card status, but not citizenship status, are not automatically U.S. citizens. Those children will need to apply for citizenship.
Having been through that process, I can tell you it’s long, expensive and stressful. Perhaps on Veterans Day we should thank these men and women for their service by handing them a citizenship packet from the USCIS Department.
