Thank you, Susan Petrovek, for your “My Turn” article (“Banning assault weapons is the clear solution”) in the Aug. 31 issue of the Monitor. You are absolutely correct. All the other proposed legislation – background checks, extended waiting periods, mental health treatment, etc. – is meaningless as long as assault weapons are accessible. There is no place for these military-style weapons in a civilized society.
I will vote only for candidates who have the courage to stand up to the NRA and fight for a ban on assault weapons.
