One of Jan Schaffer’s (Monitor Letters, Sept. 2) most ridiculous claims is that Democrats fight to keep Americans safe. The opposite is closer to the truth.
Democrats try to cut the spending needed to protect us, for example the military, border control, ICE. President Obama weakened our military while our enemies grew stronger, developed new weapons and threaten us, our allies and international commerce. Obama gave Iran, which promises “Death to America,” the okay to develop nuclear weapons and the ICBMs to deliver them.
Democrats control our most crime-ridden cities. Democrats deny poor people decent educations and jobs, and ignore the slaughter in poor neighborhoods. Democrats even attack law enforcement for enforcing the laws.
Democrats support illegal immigration, which creates over 100 totally avoidable crime and accident victims every day. Democrats even provide sanctuary to known violent illegal alien criminals enabling them to continue victimizing people.
Democrats demand stricter gun-control laws that would hinder law-abiding, especially poor, people from protecting themselves without showing what shootings these laws would have prevented. But Democrats often don’t even enforce the existing laws against gun-using criminals. Democratic created “gun-free zones” may give the illusion of safety, but they are the locations of choice for people who want their moment of notoriety.
Democrats misinform people to delude them into ignoring real threats and believing catchy-sounding but false solutions. The truth is that Democrats make our country weaker, less safe and enable the otherwise avoidable victimization of Americans.
