Hopkinton’s Robbie Ferguson, a junior goalie for the New England College men’s soccer team, assisted on a goal in the fifth minute and then posted a shutout as the Pilgrims beat Regis College, 1-0, on Tuesday night in Henniker.
A free kick from Ferguson sailed into the attacking zone early in the game and found NEC’s Alex Rust, a freshman midfielder from Hooksett. Rust gained control and his shot snuck past the far post with just 4:54 off the clock in the non-conference game. Ferguson needed just one save to pick up the shutout, his second straight. The junior has not given up a goal in 212:43 of game time.
Hillsboro’s Panagiotis Galatas, a junior midfielder, also played well for the Pilgrims, who improved to 3-4 with the win.
