On Saturday, Rebecca Fleming scored a pair of goals to lead the Belmont varsity girls’ soccer team to a 3-0 win against Laconia (1-5-0). Yelena Rodrigues helped the Raiders (4-2-1) to a fast start with a goal in the fourth minute off a nice corner kick from Molly Sottak. Fleming, assisted by Kailey Gerbig, made it 2-0 about 12 minutes later.
Strong defense from Melanie Labrecque and Kendall Murray helped the Bow Middle School girls’ soccer team improve to 4-0-1. Bridget Hilton and Ariah Dewar made several great saves in goal for Bow, while Abby Foote recorded a hat trick.
The Bow Soccer Club 2008 Boys defeated Litchfield. Sebastian Christie scored three goals for Bow and Cam Czarnosz and Lochlann Brady added one each. Defensively, Luke Andrews, Chase Crowell and Clayton Nadzan played tenacious defense.
■The Hopkinton girls U14 soccer team scored its first goal of the season in the final minutes, but the Hawks (0-4-0) lost to Bedford. of play in the game. The Hopkinton goal was scored by Anne Pearce with a long range assist from Greta Baker. Playing well in goal with five saves apiece were Paige Boudette and Avery Loew. Aisling Madden and Lillybelle Chodosh also played well for the Hawks.
The Concord Capitals JTD Enterprises 16U Midget Elites beat the Walpole Express 16U team, 5-2. Ben Bourgault scored two goals for the Caps, while Matthew Wheeler, Aiden Ramshaw and Zack McCoy had one each. Ryan Morin, Matthew Tetreault, McCoy and Ramshaw all recorded assists, and Kalan Gaudreault turned in a great performance between the pipes.
Golf results
Dave Perry and Chris Sullivan won the 2019 Fall Member/Member at the Concord Country Club in a sudden death playoff with Dave Tillotson and Braden Smith after both teams finished 16 under par over two rounds this past weekend. Brian Boylan and Jim Walker took third place with round of 61-64 for a 15 under par round of 125. Chick Smith and Kraig Burnham tied for foruth place with Ron Landry and Dan Murphy, after both teams finished 13 under par for the two-day, 42-team event.
University of New Hampshire seniors Ally Reynolds and Kaylan Williams each tallied a goal on Sunday afternoon as the Wildcats women’s soccer team (5-4-0) defeated the UMBC Retrievers, 2-0. The win makes the Wildcats to 1-0-0 in conference play for the sixth straight season, and it was their first road win of 2019.
■The UNH volleyball team extended its win streak to four matches with a straight-set win against NJIT, then lost to Towson University in straight sets at the Tiger Invitational. The set scores vs. NJIT were 25-12, 25-15, 25-15. Towson prevailed 25-8, 25-17, 33-31 to improve to 10-2. UNH is 10-4 overall and went 2-1 at all four tournaments this season. NJIT fell to 1-12.
New Hampshire Comets softball annual meeting will be on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Northeast Delta Dental, Two Delta Drive, Concord. At the meeting new board members will be considered for the 2019-20 season. The positions of public relations/fundraising and event coordinator will be voted on. New Hampshire Tackles Hunger, organized by the New Hampshire Food Bank and WMUR-TV sportscaster Jamie Staton, are once again teaming up to help fight hunger during the high school football season. Fans are asked to bring canned food to specific games this fall as part of the state-wide food drive. On Saturday, Concord High will hold its food drive during the home game against Goffstown, and on that same day Bishop Brady will also be hosting its food drive during its game against Franklin. The Hillsboro-Deering-Hopkinton drive will be during its Oct. 5 home game against Lebanon. Pembroke Academy will also hold its drive on Oct. 5 for the game against Bow. John Stark rounds out the local drives on Oct. 11 for its game in Weare against Pembroke.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducting its second class on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The inductees include Kevin O’Brien, Dave Huckins and the 1989 Merrimack Valley boys’ basketball team. The public is welcome to attend.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame golf tournament will be held on Oct. 12 at Loudon Country Club. The cost is $400 per foursome, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, post-tournament meal and pre-tournament coffee and muffins.
New Hampshire Legends of Hockey 17th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be on Oct. 20 at the Grappone Conference Center, in Concord at 11:30 a.m. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include Denis Martin, Freddy Meyer and Deron Quint who are being inducted as players; longtime New England College bench boss Tom Carroll is being inducted as a coach; Rod Ross is being inducted in the media category; and the late Downing Potter “DP” Brown is being inducted posthumously as a builder. Ben Smith will be the keynote speaker. The hockey history of the Alpine Club, which competed in the Granite State Hockey League in the early to mid 60s will also be recognized. CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship tryouts will be held on Friday and Oct. 5 at Sullivan Arena on St. Anselm’s College campus. The game will be held on March 13, 2020 at SNHU Arena in Manchester between police officers and firefighters from across the region to raise money for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD). Fire tryouts will be from 4-5 p.m. on Sept. 21, 7:45-8:45 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 2-3 p.m. on Oct. 5. Police tryouts at 5:15-6:15 p.m. on Saturday, 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 3:15-4:15 p.m. on Oct. 5.
