President Trump is probably the most corrupt president of modern times. But the truth is that Trump is the symptom, not the disease. As Elizabeth Warren correctly points out, a country that elects Donald Trump is a country that’s already in trouble.
One big reason I support Elizabeth Warren for president is she takes a strong stand against corruption. I am especially sensitive to this issue having spent much of my career in federal service or federal contracting, and time and again have seen things happen that should not be legal, but somehow are commonplace.
With her latest anti-corruption plan, Warren would raise the bar for ethics standards, end lobbying as we know it, shut down the “revolving door,” and require all candidates for federal office to release their tax returns. Many of these reforms are opposed by Republican and Democratic establishments alike – which is exactly why we need them now more than ever, to give the power back to the people.
This plan, like many that Elizabeth has released, is detailed but focused on an overarching problem – our system is corrupt and can’t be fixed unless we get to the root of the issue. We can’t just get rid of Trump. We have to protect our citizens and keep other corrupt politicians far away from the Oval Office.
