Two Franklin residents were seriously injured Wednesday morning when their vehicles collided on Old South Main Street in the city.

Drivers Daniel Sullivan and Lisa Marie Judkins, both of whom are in their 50s, were transported to Concord Hospital and were expected to undergo surgery as soon as possible, Franklin Police Chief David Goldstein said.

Firefighters had to extricate both drivers from their vehicles as they were trapped following the collision, which was reported shortly after 9 a.m. Deputy Fire Chief David Hall said that extrication was “prolonged due to limited initial manpower and equipment.” Officials said it took roughly an hour for emergency responders to safely get Judkins out of her Chevy and onto an ambulance.

Due to the seriousness of the call, the fire department immediately requested additional personnel to the scene, including some off-duty staff, Hall said.

City police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, which occurred on Old South Main Street near the intersection of South Main Street. Goldstein said New Hampshire State Police’s Technical Accident Reconstruction Unit also responded and is assisting Franklin.

As of Wednesday afternoon, police had not filed charges.
