N.H. hoops HOF

The New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization will induct six former basketball coaches into their first Hall of Fame class on Oct. 13 at The Red Blazer in Concord. Social hour will start at 1:30 p.m., followed by a buffet luncheon. The first class selected by the NHBCO includes: John Fagula (Nashua), Jack Ford (Winnacunnet), Gary Jenness (Groveton and White Mountains), Mike Lee (Farmington), Lang Metcalf (Lebanon) and Danny Parr (Portsmouth). Family, friends, coaches and former players are welcome to attend. Tickets will be $30 each and the event is limited to 80 guests. RSVP to Dave Chase at 4chaseteam@comcast.net.

Freshman result

The Concord High freshman boysโ€™ soccer team lost to Manchester Central, 1-0. The Tide trailed 1-0 at halftime but played hard until the final whistle.

Middle school results

The Rundlett Middle School boysโ€™ โ€˜Aโ€™ soccer team lost to Timberlane, 5-4. Ben Hughes, Pritum Gurung, Nick Reynolds and Jayce Scroggins scored for Rundlette. Teigan Mason and Christian Arocena helped RMS contest the game at midfield. Theodore Schneible made a number of important saves in goal.

โ– The Bow boysโ€™ soccer team lost to Hampstead, 2-1, for its first defeat of the season. Brody Oโ€™Neil scored Bowโ€™s goal on a cross from Jared Dolder. Oโ€™Neil, Austin Beaulieu and Sean Hoey played standout defense. Elias Berrigan and Dolder were outstanding in the midfield. Aaron Barrieau turned away several shots in net.

Youth hockey results

The Concord Capitals 14U premier team defeated Walpole Express, 6-5. Sam Foulds scored four goals, while Wes Thomsen and Wes Jones added one. Jones, Thomsen, Gavin Currier, Cooper Fisher, Abram Martel and JR Norris had assists. The Capitals also lost to the Rhode Island Junior Blues. Finn Brown, Currier and Foulds scored for Concord. Norris and Thomsen had assists. Gabe Carr played well in goal.

Youth flag football result

The Patriots battled hard in a tough loss to the Jaguars. Sydney Brown hustled hard all over the field. Keira Llwelyn and Maddie Short provided the offense along with Gracen Arndt throwing a touchdown pass. Sadie Pelletier, Olivia Oโ€™Conner and Emma Burnett played some tough defense.

UNH award

Redshirt-sophomore Ava Boutilier, goaltender for the University of New Hampshire womenโ€™s hockey team, has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week after making 14 saves in a 6-0 win over Franklin Pierce on Sunday for her second career shutout.

Plymouth State awards

Junior Mallory Lloyd earned Little East Conference (LEC) Offensive Player of the Week honors for helping the Plymouth State womenโ€™s soccer team (4-4) go 2-0 last week, combining for two goals and three assists in victories of Salem State, 4-0, and UMass-Dartmouth, 4-3, in double overtime. Lloydโ€™s 13 points (five goals, three assists) and five goals are both fifth-best in the LEC.

โ– Freshman Emilee Flanagan earned LEC Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Plymouth State womenโ€™s volleyball team (18-1) to a 4-0 week, extending the Panthers win streak to nine games. Flanagan averaged 1.88 kills per set and hit .265 while adding three aces, eight blocks and nine digs.

โ– Senior defensive back Matt Oโ€™Shea, a defensive captain on the Plymouth State football team (3-1) was selected for Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly honor roll for his performance in a 21-14 loss to UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday in a battle of unbeaten teams. Oโ€™Shea made a career-high 15 tackles, including 11 solo stops, broke up a pass and blocked a punt.

Hoops coaching clinic

The 16th Annual NHTI Basketball Coaching Clinic will be held at the Goldie Crocker Wellness Center on the NHTI campus in Concord on Oct. 20. Registration is $45 if registered by Oct. 8, or $60 after that date. Coaching staff of three from the same school/program for $100 on or before Oct. 8 or for $110 after. Clinic topics include (are subject to change) defense to offense transition, developing offense, post play development, developing defensive core, rules interpretation, defending the pick and roll, and quick hitters. Cost of registration includes snacks, lunch, handouts and door prizes. Clinics are designed for coaches at college, high school, middle school and youth levels. Enrollment is limited. Events

New Hampshire Tackles Hunger, organized by the New Hampshire Food Bank and WMUR-TV sportscaster Jamie Staton, are once again teaming up to help fight hunger during the high school football season. Fans are asked to bring canned food to specific games this fall as part of the state-wide food drive. The Hillsboro-Deering-Hopkinton drive will be during Saturdayโ€™s home game against Lebanon. Pembroke Academy will also hold its drive on Saturday for the game against Bow. John Stark rounds out the local drives on Oct. 11 for its game in Weare against Pembroke.

Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame will be inducting its second class on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The inductees include Kevin Oโ€™Brien, Dave Huckins and the 1989 Merrimack Valley boysโ€™ basketball team. The public is welcome to attend.

Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame golf tournament will be held on Oct. 12 at Loudon Country Club. The cost is $400 per foursome, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, post-tournament meal and pre-tournament coffee and muffins.

New Hampshire Legends of Hockey 17th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be on Oct. 20 at the Grappone Conference Center, in Concord at 11:30 a.m. This yearโ€™s Hall of Fame inductees include Denis Martin, Freddy Meyer and Deron Quint who are being inducted as players; longtime New England College bench boss Tom Carroll is being inducted as a coach; Rod Ross is being inducted in the media category; and the late Downing Potter โ€œDPโ€ Brown is being inducted posthumously as a builder. Ben Smith will be the keynote speaker. The hockey history of the Alpine Club, which competed in the Granite State Hockey League in the early to mid 60s will also be recognized. Co-ed Field Hockey Skills clinics are being offered at FieldHouse Sports in Bow. Beginners are encouraged. Next session begins Oct. 17 for grades 3-6. Soccer Skills and Goalkeeper clinics at FieldHouse Sports Indoor Facility in Bow are now open for registration. Tryouts/Registrations

CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship tryouts will be held on Saturday at Sullivan Arena on St. Anselmโ€™s College campus. The game will be held on March 13, 2020 at SNHU Arena in Manchester between police officers and firefighters from across the region to raise money for Childrenโ€™s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD). Fire tryouts will be from 4-5 on Saturday. Police tryouts at 3:15-4:15 p.m. on Saturday. All interested skaters must register for tryouts and bring their own equipment, water, and necessary gear. Tune-up Basketball League in Meredith is open for registrations for boys and girls in grades 6-10. The league is open to players from area towns and space is limited.
