Former University of New Hampshire cross country and track and field star Elinor Purrier has advanced to the final round of the 5,000-meter run at the IAAF World Championships.
Purrier, who ran a variety of distance events while at UNH, finished ninth in the first heat of the 5,000-meter semifinals with a time of 15:08.82 on Wednesday, qualifying her for the final round. Purrier ran a 15:08.61 earlier this summer in qualifying for the IAAF World Championships, held in Doha, Qatar.
“We’re certainly proud of Elle’s continued achievements,” UNH women’s cross country coach Robert Hoppler said. “She’s had an amazing rookie year as a professional; she’s been able to transition from being one of the best runners in the NCAA to now being one of the best in the world.”
The final round of the 5,000-meter run takes place Saturday at 2:25 p.m.
