The second anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting is a terrible reminder of the cost of gun violence. As an active volunteer with Moms Demand Action, I’m advocating for the change we need to keep our families safe.

After watching my kids walk out of school as part of the March for Our Lives, I knew I had to take action myself. So, with the presidential election picking up, I knew I would have an opportunity to meet candidates who may share my concerns.

In July, I had the privilege of seeing Beto at an informal house party. I was in awe of how real he is. When he spoke to the group, he spoke to us – not at us.

We had the opportunity to speak to one another about my family’s concerns about gun violence and he listened, and I could see how much he truly cared. That’s why I’m drawn to Beto O’Rourke.

I also had the opportunity to meet with his wonderful wife, Amy, during her visit to New Hampshire. Amy wanted to hear our concerns for the growing threat of gun violence. Again, she listened with her heart and she wants to work alongside of us to bring about change.

Beto and Amy are advocating for the kind of changes we need. We need a president who knows how urgent the threat of gun violence is and will provide the leadership we need to pass common-sense reform. I believe Beto O’Rourke is that candidate.
