Hillsboroโs Izabella Warren, a freshman midfield on the Simmonโs University womenโs soccer team, scored the game-winning goal with 4:31 left in overtime to lift Simmons to a 3-2 victory over Emmanuel College, the Sharksโ first win of the season (1-9-1).
New Hampshire Tackles Hunger, organized by the New Hampshire Food Bank and WMUR-TV sportscaster Jamie Staton, are once again teaming up to help fight hunger during the high school football season. Fans are asked to bring canned food to specific games this fall as part of the state-wide food drive. John Stark rounds out the local drives on Friday for its game in Weare against Pembroke.
Merrimack Valley High School Athletics Hall of Fame golf tournament will be held on Saturday at Loudon Country Club. The cost is $400 per foursome, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, post-tournament meal and pre-tournament coffee.
New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization will induct six former basketball coaches into their first Hall of Fame class on Sunday at The Red Blazer in Concord. Social hour will start at 1:30 p.m., followed by a buffet luncheon. The first class selected by the NHBCO includes: John Fagula (Nashua), Jack Ford (Winnacunnet), Gary Jenness (Groveton and White Mountains), Mike Lee (Farmington), Lang Metcalf (Lebanon) and Danny Parr (Portsmouth). New Hampshire Legends of Hockey 17th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon will be on Oct. 20 at the Grappone Conference Center, in Concord at 11:30 a.m. This yearโs Hall of Fame inductees include Denis Martin, Freddy Meyer and Deron Quint who are being inducted as players; longtime New England College bench boss Tom Carroll is being inducted as a coach; Rod Ross is being inducted in the media category; and the late Downing Potter โDPโ Brown is being inducted posthumously as a builder. 16th Annual NHTI Basketball Coaching Clinic will be held at the Goldie Crocker Wellness Center on the NHTI campus in Concord on Oct. 20. Registration is $60.
