On Oct. 19, the First United Methodist Church of Gilford held its long tradition of serving the best bean-hole beans in the region as part of their Harvest Supper.
For 47 years, the church has been cooking bean hole beans in huge iron pots placed in holes dug behind the church and lined with red-hot stones. The beans are then buried and cooked overnight until perfectly done. Besides the beans, the dinner also serves a meal family style with all-you-can-eat corned beef, cabbage, boiled potatoes, carrots, rolls and apple or pumpkin pie for dessert.
