Katy Burns never fails to intertwine her hatred for our president into every monotonous, sophomoric column.
Katy is not alone in practicing the illusory tactic. The Monitor gives a platform to those who suffer from the halo effect, perpetuating a constantly repeated narrative based on black and white analysis.
The left invests hope in talking points that any objective person knows are generally false. We experienced that with the Mueller report and now with the impeachment investigation. Democrats reeled about the “politics of personal destruction” in the past yet they practice it in spades now?
Progressive cognitive distortions like black-and-white/all-or-nothing thinking, over-generalization and viewing an outcome beyond the one they would like to see as a “catastrophe” are the order of the day.
Media creates discontent by selectively choosing narration in what they report and people become emotionally attached; classic “argumentum ad passions.” The press chases ratings and so-called journalists feed their egos while the populace remains divided and emotionally drained.
We can’t live by binary choices; for progressives either you believe what they believe or you are (fill in -ism, -ic or -ist here). Words matter but we ought not be ruled by them nor should they be used as a weapon to demean and force political will on others.
Katy Burns and most Monitor columnists are not changing anyone’s viewpoint; they are simply perpetuating illusory bias among those most afflicted and ruled by emotion. That hardens the divide and destroys any chance of civility now or in the future.
