■The author of the book Bessie’s Story: Watching the Lights Go Out will speak and sign copies at Bachelder Library, 12 Chase Hill Road, on Monday at 7 p.m. Thomas Farmen’s book is an inspiring story about his beloved pet, a Chocolate Lab, who gradually loses her eyesight, and the lessons to be learned about growing older with grace and optimism.

■In addition to regular trick-or-treating Thursday, Andover families can celebrate Halloween at the Lions Club Party from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Andover Den, 15 Poplar St., and then visit Trunk or Treat at Blackwater Park Ballfield on Lawrence Street from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

■Families in need of clothing, housewares, children’s toys, books, etc. are invited to “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” at the community church located at the intersection of Route 11 and Chase Hill Road on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each family member is given a grocery bag that can be filled with donated items of their choice at no charge.

BOSCAWENBog People to play

■Exploring Mindfulness class will be held at the library Tuesday at 6:30 pm.

■Trick or treaters, held on Gate Night in Boscawen, are welcome to stop by the library Wednesday between 4 and 6 pm. Costumes optional, but welcomed!

■The police department reminds everyone that it is that time of year to be talking about their Christmas for Kids Program. Applications must be turned in by Thursday.

WEBSTER Craft fair canceled

■The Pillsbury Craft Fair is canceled for this year, as we have major work to do on the downstairs area.

■Come to the fire department on Halloween night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. We will have games and candy. Kids can explore trucks, meet firefighters and EMTs, and check out the department!

■The next meeting of the Pillsbury Lake Village District will be Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. A guest from ISN Solutions will speak to us about a nontoxic deweeding service that uses Biochar.

■Library Book Group meets Thursday at 7:15 p.m. to discuss The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins.
