I am deeply disturbed by the actions of our president, Donald Trump. He violated the campaign finance law of 1971, which is a federal offense, by asking for a “favor” from Ukraine that had nothing to do with the interests of the United States. He did it to dig up dirt on a potential political opponent in the 2020 election. Forget about “quid pro quo.” Forget about Rudy Giuliani. By asking this favor, he is in violation of campaign finance law. President Trump does not understand this.

The second concerning action by the president is forbidding members of the executive branch of government from testifying. This is obstruction of justice. Also, the Mueller Report listed 10 incidents of obstruction of justice which the Justice Department refused to prosecute because they believe a sitting president cannot be prosecuted. The Congress does not have this restriction as per the Constitution.

In the past, individuals in government have been prosecuted for covering up the crime, think Scooter Libby, rather than the crime itself. If President Trump is so convinced that he is innocent, why is he trying to obstruct impeachment interviews? This whole affair is brought on by President Trump himself for not obeying the law and not cooperating with Congress. He is putting the whole country through this nightmare. I hope members of Congress on both sides of the aisle will look at the actions of our president in a dispassionate and objective way.
