When listening to the televised debates for school board and city council, I thought it would be providential if Bill Belichick could plug and play the candidates into their ideal role.
Being a championship coach he would employ the available talent to do “what is best for the team” – the city. For example, he would observe from the debate that Brent Todd is determined to represent all of Concord while Kevin Miller is adamant about standing up exclusively for Penacook. Thus he might upgrade Todd to councilor at-large or even mayor, and promote Miller from the practice squad to councilor of Penacook.
Bill always says “the best players play.” Todd is a polished spokesman like Tom Brady, comfortable at meetings and organizations like the Chamber of Commerce. Miller is a straight-talking loyal trooper like Rob Gronkowski who will stand out in the rain at the polls for 12 hours if that’s what it takes to help his team.
If there’s one thing the Hoodie knows it’s that a team is comprised of a diversity of characters and skill sets. Penacook is a “special teams” city of its own. It needs a player content to “do his job” there. On a team, a city, where everybody wants to be the coach, general manager and owner we are fortunate to have a player willing to devote his sole attention to a northern frontier outpost 6 miles away from city hall.
