Dear fellow New Hampshire primary voters: The N.H. Democratic primary is only a few months away. Between now and then, Elizabeth Warren must agree to modify her ambitious “Medicate for All” plan.
It’s obvious that in the general election that plan will not sell, especially in swing states – like New Hampshire – which the Democratic nominee will need to defeat Donald Trump. The trillions of dollars in costs will scare many voters. Worst of all is the assumption that voters who like their current insurance will have to give it up and join the new plan. To run in the general election with this plan is to hand the election, especially in the battleground states, to Donald Trump.
However popular a single-payer health care plan might be around the country, Donald Trump must be defeated in the Electoral College.
We would be delighted, on the other hand, to learn that Warren will indeed become willing to listen before we get to our primary. So let’s give her a chance. When the Warren campaign asks you for support, tell them what’s wrong with Medicare for All. A more moderate plan will help her electability.
