Your article about the Travel Channel investigating the Ocean Born Mary house is among the worst examples of reporting ever (Monitor Local & State, Nov. 21). The photo accompanying the story online clearly goes back about 50 years. The house has been immaculately well kept for decades now.
Ocean Born Mary died in 1814 (not 1844) at the age of 94 (not 91). Check it for yourself on her headstone in the cemetery behind the Henniker town offices. And as for the ghost stories, all that was a complete fabrication by the man who owned the house in the 1950s. You may be among the few people around here who don’t know that.
I’ve been familiar with the story since the 1960s and first visited the house and grave in 1967. I guess the Travel Channel is into the TV equivalent of clickbait, where facts don’t matter.
