Two items in Thursday’s paper caught my attention: The headline at the top of the front page – “KILLING IT AT JOHN STARK” – really woke me up. Really insensitive choice of words. Then, in the article on charter schools, I saw that while the state contributes $3,709 to our public schools, it contributes double to charter schools. Why don’t we simply contribute the same to both? An additional $3,709 per student would go a long way toward fixing the very public school problems that motivates the charter school movement.
