When the mission is distributing 70 tons of food to families 18 communities in the Capital Region before Christmas, the obvious launching point is the New Hampshire National Guard Headquarters in Concord.
On Tuesday, volunteers and state officials held the 2019 “Blessing of the Boxes” ceremony for the Capital Region Food Program’s 46th annual Holiday Food Basket Project.
More than 1,000 volunteers will prepare and deliver food baskets throughout Merrimack County as part of the holiday effort, which is held in partnership with the National Guard each December.
The Capital Region Food Programis a private, nonprofit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to reducing hunger in the Greater Concord area through year-round distribution of food to individuals and families. Every dollar donated to the program is used solely for the purchasing of food, the organization said.
