A response to a good neighbor and friend who wrote a letter (Monitor, Dec. 20) titled “What the impeachment headlines should say.”

Yes, your “President Impeached” idea would have been more accurate in terms of the Constitution. Your “… in the works for the Democratic Party since Donald Trump…” is not as accurate. Hey, remember Sen. Mitch McConnell’s, “We’re going to make Obama a one-term president?” Republicans sure tried, didn’t they?

I also don’t agree with your “people’s choice” idea. President Trump lost the vote of the people by around three million votes. I sort of smiled at your comment that the Democrats are “shouting to the electorate.” Honestly, did you see the hearing for the last nominee now appointed Supreme Court justice, or the impeachment hearings? Who was shouting? Then you say that the Democrats “attack, develop bogus schemes, lie, cheat and get rid of the person one way or another.”

My friend, who is it who lies constantly? Who is it who fires people who don’t bow to him? Who is it who got rid of our ambassador to the Ukraine because she was blocking his attempt to discredit a political opponent?

And, finally, you offer, “This is so wrong. Extreme power in the hands of a few people gone awry,” meaning Democrats when you overlook what Trump, McConnell and Rep. Nunez have done to the checks and balances of our Constitution.

Yes, the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November will be a time of profound interest.
