A Concord High student was found wearing an ammunition belt filled with spent-shell casings Monday, causing administrators to put the school in lockdown as police investigated, according to interim Principal Michael Reardon.
“Obviously, this was an extremely upsetting occurrence for students and faculty here at the school,” Reardon said in a phone message to parents and members of the school community. “In retrospect, no one in the school was in danger at any time. The safety of our school community remains our highest priority.”
In his recorded message just before 3 p.m., Reardon said the student was spotted around 1 p.m. wearing the ammo belt as he slept in a classroom. The school resource officer was notified and the school was put in lockdown as a precaution. Reardon did not name the student, but said he was taken into police custody and was cooperative.
Once school officials realized the belt contained no live ammunition and no one was in danger, the lockdown was lifted, Reardon said.
