Seeing Elizabeth Warren speak in Concord on Thursday, I was reminded why it is so powerful to have a former public school teacher and lifelong educator as one of the leading candidates for president.
More than anyone in this race, Elizabeth understands that the best way to ensure America’s future success is by investing in America’s future. That’s why her education agenda invests in every student, birth through higher education, to ensure that at every step our students get the high-quality education they deserve. From universal child care for our youngest, quadrupling federal Title I funding for our K-12 public school students, to providing universal two, four year and technical school, and canceling student loan debt, Elizabeth has a comprehensive solution to the complex issues in our education system.
Elizabeth approaches each of the challenges facing us as an educator. She studies the problem deeply, collaborates with others to learn the facts and uses those facts to inform her opinion. She thinks like an educator and learner first and then works on how to make things happen rather than thinking about what is politically expedient first.
She is also focused on fairness. Elizabeth’s plans are fully funded through her “Ultra Millionaire Wealth Tax,” commonly known as her “Two-Cent” tax. By asking the top 75,000 families to pay their fair share by pitching in just two cents on every dollar after $50 million, we can invest in an entire generation of Americans. That seems like a more than worthwhile investment to me.
