Often in the history of our country, a divisive president has been followed by a uniter, one who sets out from his first day in office to heal the wounds of a fractured nation. After the divisive era of Donald Trump, the United States is sorely in need of such a leader, and it is clear that Cory Booker is the best choice to take on this onerous but ultimately uplifting task.
Throughout his career, Cory has consistently focused on building coalitions to make progress on the most important issues. As mayor of New Jersey’s largest city, Cory turned around decades of decline – and people started moving back to Newark for the first time in 60 years. In the U.S. Senate, Cory led the passage of long overdue criminal justice reform – the only major bipartisan bill signed into law by Trump.
His record of getting results for the people he serves – even when it means finding common ground with uncommon partners or making choices that don’t fit into ideological boxes – is exactly what we need. Cory will work to tackle and solve other pressing problems facing our nation: immigration reform, universal medical care, climate change, and racial and economic inequity, to name just a few.
In the 2020 election, Cory is exactly the candidate we need to excite voters and build a coalition of positivity and optimism similar to the one that brought Obama to victory in 2008. That’s why I’m eager to vote for Cory Booker on Feb. 11.
