The Friends of the Meredith Library will host a book sale at the Meredith Public Library on Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Feb. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. With the purchase of a first time (new) membership with the Friends, you will be provided with the attractive Friends of the Meredith Library canvas book bag which in turn can be filled, one time, with books free of charge! Memberships (individuals $15, family $25 and business $50), may be updated any day during the event. Book dealers are welcome and scanners are permitted at any time during the sale. Note: Books being donated to the sale should be brought in no later than Feb. 7.
Red Cross babysitting training will be held at the Hopkinton Libraryโs community room on Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Space is limited to 20 participants. Register at hopkintonrec.com.
On Feb. 8 and 9, the beautiful Lakes Region of New Hampshire becomes a winter wonderland on the ice. The 41st annual Great Meredith Rotary Ice Fishing Derby brings anglers and families from all over New England outside to enjoy this fun event. The derby is headquartered in Meredith on the shores of the famous Lake Winnipesaukee. This event is a major fundraiser for the Meredith Rotary Club and the countless volunteer hours make this annual event a โmust-doโ for anyone that loves the great outdoors and is looking for a great family weekend destination. With over $50,000 in cash prize awards, there are plenty of people that purchase a $40 ticket even though they donโt even plan to fish! On Feb. 8, instructors from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Departmentโs Letโs Go Fishing Program will offer free instructional clinics. Clinics will take place at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. on the ice in front of the Derby headquarters trailer on Meredith Bay. The clinic is geared toward kids but is open to anyone! Those 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment will be provided. You do not need to have a fishing license to participate in this free ice fishing lesson. The Inn at Pleasant Lake in New London is holding its annual Winterfest on March 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $10 per ticket for admission. Events will be a silent auction for which all proceeds will benefit the N.H.
