A talented Hillsboro-Deering DECA team had great success at the recent New Hampshire DECA 63rd Annual Career Development Conference. It was held Feb. 12 to 14, at the Hilton Doubletree in Manchester.
Twenty-six team members attended this year’s competition. The team included: Chloe Braun, Emma Breed, Jaedin Chacos, Owen Coombs, Emma Curley, Emma Davison, Kaylea Davison, Hannah Edwards, Kagan Ellinwood, Miranda Feighery, Emily Ferguson, Gunner Hagstrom, Serena Havunen, Serenedy Kelley, Alexis Ledvina, Madison Ledvina, Nathaniel Ledvina, Cassidy Marshall, Alexis McClure, Kimberly Nadeau, Kelsey Powell, Rose Rioux, Irena Rose, Amanda Shortt, Rachel VanOlmen, and Emily Wilkens.
Out of the 26 students who attended, the team earned 2 chapter trophies, several medals and multiple plaques. Hillsboro-Deering did so well this year that some students qualified twice in various events. Junior Cassidy Marshall was re-elected to state office. Combined with the chapter’s successful Virtual Business season, a total of twenty-four students will be competing at the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tenn., from April 28 to May 3.
Students won accolades in several events including: Principles of Marketing, Accounting, Apparel and Accessories, Restaurant and Food Service Management, Buying and Merchandising, Entrepreneurship, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Business Operations Research, Franchising, Hospitality, International Business, and Professional Selling. Many other individual accomplishments were awarded to the students in the chapter. The chapter itself was recognized for reaching the Thrive level of accomplishment by DECA Inc., and for reaching the Outstanding Chapter level by New Hampshire DECA.
“We have a lot of youth on our team with only five seniors and the rest made up of underclassmen who are all very strong. Their combined efforts really made our Hillsboro-Deering team stand out among the large schools in our state. I am very excited to see how they do at the international level!” said Mr. Marc Payeur, H-D DECA advisor.
HD DECA is hosting a Silent Auction on Friday, March 13 as a fundraiser to assist in getting to Nashville. Several outstanding items will be available in the auction. If you want to find out more about the auction, DECA or want to help these students make it to the world finals, contact Mr. Payeur at 464-1205 or email mpayeur@hdsd.org.
