■Old Home Day Committee volunteers needed! The Old Home Day Committee is looking for new members to help with preparation, scheduling and organizing of the annual Old Home Day event. Volunteer roles: Chair of the Old Home Day Committee, responsible for managing the budget, the timeline of activities and running the meetings throughout the year. Vendor coordinator, communicates with interested vendors and sets up the placement of tents, tables or booths. Other roles: Ice Cream Scoopers, Pet Parade helpers, raffle table, advertising, signage, prizes, ribbons, Parade Coordinator/Assistants, traffic control, Master of Ceremonies and set-up of the Town Green before events. Please contact the Selectmen’s Office if you are interested in serving our community by calling 648-6320 or by email at salisburyadmin@tds.net. You may ask why this issue has come about; during the Old Home Day Committee meeting on Oct. 19; there was a candid discussion about so few citizens putting in a great amount of energy and time to bring a memorable event to the community. The turnout does not justify the planning, organizing and cost of the Old Home Day festivities. Should the town take a break and hold the Old Home Day event every other year? Should The Old Home Day Committee scale back activities or should they abandon the tradition altogether? Also they are asking how they can entice more people to volunteer and have more involvement. Nancy Hayden is stepping down as the Old Home Day Committee chair but is willing to organize the Friday night events. Cindy Owens is stepping down as the vendor coordinator. If you are interested in keeping this tradition alive please contact the town via the email or phone number mentioned in the beginning of this paragraph.
