The American Legion Post 81 is among many businesses who had to shutter operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, most of its members are currently unemployed.
After a vote to have Post 81 become a non-smoking/vaping facility, a handful of veteran volunteers are taking advantage of the shutdown to renovate the existing space and create an outdoor patio. The vision is to restore Post-81’s honorable missions while embracing a more community-oriented approach.
With a $0 budget, they started by simply painting the walls, thanks to a generous donation from Capitol Paint and Wallpaper. Soon, others began to contribute materials such Big Jim’s Home Center, Cyr Lumber, and Harvey Industry. Before you knew it, local tradesmen stepped in to donate their time and skills. It is both impressive and humbling to witness the generosity of a community working toward a noble goal. But there is still much to do.
