■It was sad to hear there will be no swimming pools open this summer, as well as no Fourth of July celebration at Memorial Field. It was a hard decision, but a safe and wise one with virus concerns. Please keep wearing masks and keeping a safe distance.
■Don’t forget Friday is the final day to file for the State Representative and State Senate elections with the Concord City Clerk or Secretary of State. If you wish to file for County Sheriff, County Commissioner, Executive Councilor, County Register of Deeds, Governor, U.S. Senator or U.S. Representative, you must go to the Secretary of State office. The voters on the East Side will vote in Ward 8, Ward 9, Ward 19 and the Floterial Representative. Following the November election, ward lines will be redrawn. ■If you went to Concord High School in the 1960s or 70s you might have heard about the passing of Lillian Grossman who taught Latin. She moved to Ohio following her remarriage.

■The Concord Public Library will have an online session Monday from 9-10 a.m. The library is offering children’s stories with actor and Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton, who will be hosting an online program called “LeVar Burton Reads”. For more information, check out his website levarburton.com.
■White Park is open. The Concord Parks and Recreation Department asks everyone to practice social distancing in park and to continue to carry in and carry out trash as maintenance levels have been limited due to reduced staffing levels.
■The Concord Farmers Market will be open on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is located off of Capitol Street in Downtown Concord. The event has 40 vendors offering a variety of products, including meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, vegetables, fish, honey, bakery items and maple products. Also featured are potted plants, cut flowers, wood products, dog treats and body care products. There will be a few changes for consumers during this challenging time. Enter the market from North State Street and Main Street and read the notices that will be posted. If you are ill, or have a cough, do not attend the market.
■The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for their Leadership Greater Concord Class of 2021. This program fosters civic awareness in the community and participants are equipped with information they need in order to become more involved in activities that will enhance the region. ■June 4 was the last day that Mrs. Carpenter taught in the Concord School District. Mrs. Carpenter is one of the teachers that will retire at the conclusion of the school year and chances are you, your parents, or perhaps your grandparents had her as a teacher after teaching in the Concord School District for almost 40 years. She previously taught at Dewey School and Dame School, but spent most of her career at Conant School and now Abbot Downing School. Congratulations to all the retiring teachers and in particular, Mrs. Carpenter.
