Girls on the Run New Hampshire will provide a Power Up Activity Kit to help keep New Hampshire girls active and healthy through the summer while inspiring creativity, encouraging movement, and teaching new skills. The New Hampshire council is a leader in developing and delivering life-changing programs for girls through more than 140 sites across the state and has served more than 15,000 since it was founded in 2001. After the cancelation of schools, implementation of social distancing, and the restrictions around large public events due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 19-year old nonprofit adapted quickly to alter its spring season to continue to deliver on its mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. This new offering by the nonprofit organization also delivers on that mission. The at-home kit includes 50 activities to fuel girlsโ mind, body and spirit that emphasize the important connection between physical and emotional health. Each activity helps girls learn important skills such as how to cope when things get difficult, demonstrate care for self and others, and practice positivity. From the silly starters to the fun movement games and challenges, the activities were designed to get girls to laugh, create, and grow. Available after June 17 at raceplanner.com/register/index/Power-Up-2020-Girls-on-the-Run-New-Hampshire, the kit is $49 and includes: The Power Up Activity Book, an exclusive GRL PWR t-shirt, Physical Activity Training Plan, Completion Certificate, and a few other fun surprises, delivered directly to her doorstep. Girls on the Run New Hampshire is also raising funds to provide sponsored kits to girls within the community. Please visit raceplanner.com/donate/GOTRNH2020fundraiser to make a donation today.
Lakes Region Art Association/Gallery is now offering drawing classes for students in grades from six to twelve. The five weekday classes begin July 6 at 10 a.m. All two hour classes are taught by professional artist, Thomas Hitchcock. โThere are students who love to draw using graphite pencils, and Iโll be happy to share our mutual love for their use by teaching each one how to develop and improve their skills, understand perspective, shading, gradations, special tricks, and what type of supplies and paper theyโll need,โ Hitchcock said. In addition to Hitchcockโs teaching students how to draw, theyโll also get a full scope of training in the art of seeing, comprehending and on how to include scenes and objects theyโve observed into a well-designed and successful work of art. Included is a free multi-page book authored by Hitchcock: โHow to Draw Using Graphite Pencils and Other Materials.โ For the complete schedule of classes and cost for the course, contact the Lakes Region Art Association/Gallery, 132 Tanger Mall, Tilton, Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or call 496-6768.

The Town of Epsom was excited to receive generous support with the restoration of the Old Meetinghouse in Epsom. The Old Meetinghouse Revitalization Committee is moving forward to complete the restoration of this historic landmark and providing a community space for Epsom residents as well as surrounding communities. Thanks to the N.H. State Council for the Arts three of the eight stained glass windows have been repaired and reinstalled. In 2019, the Town of Epsom was awarded a grant from the N.H. State Council for the Arts Moose Plate Grant, in the amount of $17,940, for work needed on the Old Meetinghouseโs stained glass windows. The contract was awarded to Sash and Solder of Portsmouth, who has performed work on the restoration of stained glass windows at the State House. Work was completed in March and the windows were reinstalled in April. Grant proposals for the additional windows to be repaired are in the works. The next step in renovations will be interior construction, the installation of the septic system and plumbing and installation of the bathroom facilities. The Town, under the direction of the OMRC, continues to work through the necessary repairs and renovations to receive a certificate of occupancy and have the Old Meetinghouse be available as a community space for all. The committee continues to seek funding through grants and monetary/material donations to complete the work and create this much needed community center.
