A Belmont man recently pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to committing bank fraud.

Jon Daigle Jr., 33, altered stolen checks and attempted to cash them at various banks in New Hampshire, according to prosecutors. Some of the checks were stolen from a community mailroom in Bedford and others from mailboxes in Manchester between January and April of this year.

Bedford police said a surveillance camera captured Daigle pick the lock to one mailroom and rummage through various packages on Jan. 12.

Manchester police ultimately arrested Daigle and a co-conspirator in late April. Police said the vehicle the pair was traveling in had more than $16,000 in stolen checks and credit cards, in addition to other mail that did not belong to them.

Daigle is scheduled to be sentenced in Concord on Nov. 17.

The case was investigated by Belmont, Bedford and Manchester police in partnership with the United States Postal Service.
