Twenty three softball teams from around the state will be converging on Concord this weekend for the Bill Varnell Memorial Tournament. The opening ceremonies will be held at 5:45 p.m. on Friday at Sanel Park to honor Varnell, a long-time softball coach for Concord Northeast and NH Comets. Members of the Varnell family will also be on hand to throw out the first pitch.
The tournament has three divisions – 10U, 12U and 14U. The 10U games will be played at Dillon Field with two pool games on Friday, six more on Saturday (the first scheduled to start at 8 a.m.) and five elimination games on Sunday, including the championship at 4 p.m.
The 12U games will be held at the Martin Field Complex with two pool games on Friday, seven on Saturday (8 a.m. start) and five elimination games on Sunday, including the 1:30 p.m. championship. The 14U pool games will be held at both Sanel Park and NHTI on Friday and Saturday, but all of the playoff games will be at Sanel on Sunday with the championship scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
