Traci and David Sullivan of Tilton received an award from the Canterbury select board for their efforts aiding with a rescue of several struggling swimmers on the Merrimack River on July 4.

Along with their son and his girlfriend and other family friends, the couple pulled a man and two children from the water during what was supposed to be a leisurely float down the river.

“I think that if we were not at the right place at the right time, there would have been three drownings,” Traci previously told the Monitor. “If we had arrived two minutes later or earlier to that spot, there would have been a very different outcome. It was apparent that no one on the shore at that time knew how to swim.”

The Sullivans provided CPR to the man until first responders arrived.
