I’m Terry Smith, and I’m running for state representative for Hill and Franklin (smithfornhstaterep.com).

Like most us, I’ve been dismayed when our legislators seem satisfied to bicker instead of solving problems like ballooning property taxes. Over my 26 years in state government, I spent a lot of time at the State House either writing laws or testifying to legislative committees. I still have many friends there on both sides of the aisle. It can be done. Things can get done.

Thirty-five years ago, Elise and I bought land on Currier Road in Hill during a recession. Our jobs didn’t pay much, so I spent three years with a chainsaw clearing the building site, dragging the trees away with a 1959 Case tractor, and hand-digging the ditch along our 300-yard driveway. It took another eight years to build the house, then two more years to build the garage and breezeway, meanwhile commuting to Concord, working full time and raising three kids. If few of you know me, that’s why.

A Vietnam-era Navy veteran, I like to think I’m more thoughtful than extreme, being neither far left nor far right, but running as a Democrat. For more, you can google me, “Terry Smith Director Division of Family Services” or check out my book, Gaudy Baubles and Fartworms, about much needed efficiencies in government. Then contact me with any government changes you would like to see.

I’ll try to bring the “common” back to common sense.

TERRY SMITH
