Police have issued about 350 warnings in relation to the town’s face covering ordinance, and handed out 74 masks, Town Administrator Todd Selig said.
Most of those warnings have been given to University of New Hampshire students who recently returned to campus.
But despite that, Selig says town officials, police and community members have been pleased with the amount of compliance by students.
“I think we’ve been successful in Durham on-campus and off-campus establishing a new social norm. If you’re on campus or downtown, you need a mask, that’s just what we do in Durham,” Selig said during an interview Thursday afternoon in downtown Durham. “It’s considerate of other people, it’s the healthy thing to do, that’s why we’re doing it.”
