Emergency crews responded to an overturned trailer carrying an excavator on Interstate 93 Monday morning near Exit 15 in Concord.
The accident, which was reported at 10:16 a.m., reduced the highway to a single lane and closed Exit 15-E to Interstate 393 East, causing highway traffic to back up for miles.
State Police said the driver of the Mack dump truck pulling the 38,000-pound excavator northbound was going too fast when a tire blew out on the trailer just as he was veering toward the on-ramp. The combination of speed and blown tire caused the CAT excavator to tumbled onto its side.
Concord Fire Department responded to the crash to contain a diesel fuel spill that came from the CAT excavator.
The truck driver, Cameron St. Pierre, 29, of Richmond, N.H. was given a warning for “unreasonable speed,” State Police said.
Crews worked to remove the overturned equipment and repair the roadway Monday afternoon.
No injuries were reported, officials said.
