Speaker of the House Steve Shurtleff rightly apologized to UNH last week for the outrageous and irresponsible actions of a small group of “noncompliant” representatives during our House session on Wednesday.

I understand Steve’s need to speak for what I hope is the majority of the body who did conduct themselves properly. However, if there are apologies rendered, they should come from those representatives who embarrassed themselves and the rest of us by their demeanor.

Also, apologies should be forthcoming from Republican leaders – particularly minority leader Dick Hinch and perhaps even the governor – who recently have been silent about that and other disgraceful actions by a member of their caucus. It’s about time those so-called leaders took responsibility for their immature colleagues.

I hope the constituents of the 47 representatives who either acted inappropriately or condoned by silence that behavior think long and hard as to whether those running again deserve their vote in November.
