In recent days, Donald Trump’s message is clear. He will accept the results of the election only if he wins. Since the odds of that are growing increasingly unlikely, he has a new strategy for holding on to power: Throw out the ballots. He’s deadly serious.
Democrats have been warned by the president in his own words. He intends to exhaust all means necessary to rig the election. He challenges the validity of mail-in voting now as a prelude to contesting the results should he lose. He has already interfered with the election by publicly planting a seed of doubt. He will not go gently and is likely to employ convoluted legal arguments to be decided in the Supreme Court. Why else would he rush the confirmation of a new justice before the election?
I’m sure we will hear complaints about the left-wing media fulfilling its role as the enemy of the people. I would urge the public to ignore the pundits and listen to your conscience. It is time to put country ahead of party. Our democracy depends on it.
