I would like to point out a bald-faced lie that the New Hampshire Democratic Party includes in one of its television ads comparing Chris Sununu to President Trump.
The ad that I saw on WMUR flashed a picture of Donald Trump with Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and claimed that abortion would be made illegal. That is not true for New Hampshire.
Even if both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey were overturned, which they have not been, abortion would not be made illegal throughout the country.
The truth is that if those prior decisions were overturned by the Supreme Court, the laws of each state would govern abortion, and the laws are made by the legislative branch in each state, not judges. Judges merely interpret the laws.
New Hampshire laws prohibiting abortion were repealed in 1997 and current law allows abortion throughout a pregnancy, right up until birth, in fact, and which is less restrictive than almost any other state. Every election cycle Democrats try to scare women by trotting out this falsehood that unelected judges will deprive women of their right to choose abortion, while the truth is that New Hampshire law would continue to govern abortions in this state.
New Hampshire women can safely vote for Chris Sununu for governor, Corky Messner for U.S. Senate, Matt Mowers for U.S. Congress for District 1, or Steve Negron for U.S. Congress for District 2 and not worry about losing the right to an abortion.
