Politicizing mask wearing is deadly wrong. The science is clear that wearing masks will save hundreds of thousands of lives. Donald Trump politicized masks and ignored public health experts. Chris Sununu chose to follow Trump.
While Vermont and Maine are in the low caseload zone, New Hampshire is not. New Hampshire cases are rising quickly, and Vermont is now requiring N.H. residents to quarantine before visiting. Why? Because New Hampshire has the only Northeastern governor who followed Trump and refused to issue a common-sense mask requirement. You have to go down South to Dixie to find another governor who similarly followed Trump.
Despite his carefully crafted image, Sununu is no moderate. Like Trump, Sununu appointed an anti-public school Betsy DeVos clone as education commissioner. Like Trump, Sununu had no school reopening plan. Like Trump, Sununu gave millions in COVID funds to his corporate donors. Like Trump, Sununu rejects climate change and does not support reproductive choice.
Also, Sununu’s astronomical 79 vetoes are extreme. Sununu even vetoed a bipartisan bill to end rigged gerrymandering and create an independent redistricting committee. Sununu doesn’t want a level playing field. Sununu vetoed bipartisan clean energy bills, paid family and medical leave, a minimum wage increase, common-sense gun safety bills, etc. Sununu didn’t even read some bills, saying he would “err on the side of vetoing.”
The only thing Sununu masks is his extreme agenda. Sununu proudly supports Trump. So, New Hampshire, mask-up and remember that Sununu’s allegiance to Trump puts New Hampshire at grave risk.
