I am writing to express my utter shock and disappointment in our newly elected state rep in Hillsborough County District 2, Leah Cushman.

With the news of Gov. Sununu issuing a statewide mask mandate for the health and safety of the people of New Hampshire, she posted on her public facing Facebook page โ€œurging all Granite Staters to resist this mandate by taking masks off once and for all to resist this governor who is imposing a flawed methodology to give the appearance that he is addressing a perceived crisis.โ€

Cushman is a nurse, working with patients. She is willing to defy orders to wear a mask, and by doing that putting her patients and other members of our community at risk. She will say that the science of mask-wearing is inconclusive, but yet she wears it at work to do exactly what it is meant to do out in the community. This is hypocritical and her rhetoric is dangerous and divisive, especially in these current times of political unrest. When she should be bringing the community together, she is clearly widening the divide. Itโ€™s sad, and it makes me fear for the future of my community.

Weare, you deserve better.
