2016’s poor losers have turned into 2020’s poor winners. President-elect Joe Biden is promising to turn back the clock and reverse many successful policies of last four years. We will, without a doubt, continue to be a sharply divided nation and it leaves Democrats with no mandate.

Jonathan Baird, in his latest column (Monitor Opinion, Dec. 31), writes: “One party had no problem aggressively opposing the result of a fair election and seeking its reversal.” Let’s employ a little intellectual honesty, Mr. Baird. From day one, Democrats and their minions in the subservient and complicit media did everything possible to overturn the 2016 election.

Baird’s concerned about “fascism”? “Authoritarianism”? Look to Governors Cuomo, Whitmer and Newsom, and Mayors Lightfoot and DeBlasio, who seem to enjoy the power of their office too much, issuing authoritarian proclamations, suspending rights, and dictating to their constituencies. COVID-19 aside, their “do as I say not as I do” behavior speaks volumes.

Policies are crafted by self-appointed clerisy collaborating with a central government of unelected bureaucrats, entrenched in positions of power, incestuously conspiring with lobbyists, corporations and power brokers to determine what is best for the masses. Is that democracy?

Not all Democrats and Republicans in Washington kowtow to special interests and ideologues, but those who do are preserving their own self-interest through the “swamp.”

Let’s see how Mr. Baird opines about the new administration’s oversteps as they assume “power.” Expect crickets.
