Craig Greenman, your entitlement is showing (Monitor letters, Jan. 25). Common sense would have been heeding the “No Skating” and “Keep Off” signs that were “all around.” Entitlement is believing those didn’t apply to you.
Grounds crew were preparing to flood the pond. You were told you couldn’t skate (but you already knew that) and you forced employees into a confrontation. You decided to make it an issue. It escalated, and of course it did, because you made the wrong choice.
You are quite right that “you don’t need five men, three of them armed, to stop another from skating” as that person should never have been skating in the first place. Quite frankly, I think you’re lucky the responding officers didn’t arrest you for trespassing. As you stated, unity requires common sense. Seems that is exactly what you’re missing.
