Memorial Day walk

■Celebrate Memorial Day by walking with VFW Post 1698 on Monday to honor fallen veterans. Meet at the VFW at 10 a.m. to begin a walk to Garden Glen (across from the high school), The Veterans Wall at City Hall, the Korean and Vietnam Memorial by the bridge and two cemeteries. End back at the VFW for burgers, hot dogs, potato salad and macaroni salad.

■The Franklin Historical Society Plant Sale will be June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please save your cuttings and donate indoor and outdoor plants. Contact Annette at 934-8222 if you have items to donate.

■The first Monday meeting of Franklin City Council will be on June 7 due to Memorial Day. Meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Franklin City Hall.

■NH Gives kicks off June 8 at 5 p.m. and ends June 9 at 5 p.m. The NH Charitable Foundations’ Ken and Ilene Stern Charitable Fund has donated a $15,000 matching gift. Every dollar raised is matched from this gift which supports families, seniors and youth. To take part in New Hampshire’s largest non-profit fundraising event visit nhgives.org/info/get-involved.

■The “Silver Circus Show” featuring Andrew Silver, variety artist, returns to the Franklin Opera House to delight families. Tickets are on sale for a June 12, 7:30 p.m. performance. ■Save the date of June 19 to celebrate Winni River Days. This full day of fun for all ages will celebrate our river and all the great opportunities that are provided for community activities.

■Donations to a scholarship fund for programs at Parks & Rec are greatly appreciated. You may send checks made out to Franklin Parks & Recreation, noting it is for the scholarship, and mail them to 12 Rowell Drive, Franklin, NH 03235. Call 934-2118 with any questions.

■The Franklin Transfer Station accepts glass and metal for recycling. This program generates money for the City of Franklin, as well as minimizing the amount of waste at the landfill. ■The Franklin Public Library is now open for walk-ins. Masks must be worn. You can have up to 30 minutes of browsing time. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 934-2911 with any questions.

■Peabody Home is revving up its post-COVID volunteer program. Spend an hour reading to a resident; play cards, cribbage or chess; provide transportation to appointments; engage in fellowship and remembrance; provide musical entertainment; become a walking buddy; provide administrative support; join the Philanthropic Committee; write for the Peabody blog and newsletter; do arts and crafts; or do beautification of the facility.
