A man died after an exchange of gunfire with police in Pittsfield following a 10-hour standoff, the New Hampshire attorney general’s office said.
Police were called to a home on Lyford Hill Road Monday morning for a domestic disturbance.
“Upon arriving, the Pittsfield Police called the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit, which is a regional SWAT Team, for assistance,” Attorney General John Formella and State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes announced. “An armed male subject refused to leave the residence and submit to arrest.
The standoff ended when gunfire was exchanged between at least six members of the Specialized Weapons and Tactics team and the man, who was identified as Anthony Hannon, 52, of Pittsfield, Formella and Noyes said in a statement Monday night.
An autopsy performed by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg determined Hannon’s cause of death was “multiple gunshot wounds.” His manner of death was ruled to be a homicide, which is defined as “the killing of one person by another.”
No one else was hurt. The officers did not have body or cruiser cameras, which is not required by law in New Hampshire, the attorney general’s office said.
The home is one of the last on the street that dead-ends just before it intersects with Route 28 near Globe Manufacturing. Property records show the single-family home has an attached studio apartment.
The Attorney General’s Office and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit are investigating.
“Pursuant to protocol, no further information will be released until formal interviews of the six involved officers are completed,” Formella and Noyes said.
