A 16-foot high mural of Ruth Blay, the last woman hanged in New Hampshire, is the latest signature piece of art in downtown Portsmouth.
The mural features an image of Blay as she stands with rope wrapped around her and a noose hanging from her waist. She gestures with her right hand.
Artist and landscape architect Terrence Parker, who created the mural, believes its most striking images are “the rope and the noose and the hand.”
