■Andover Community Church is holding a Rummage & Bake Sale every Saturday through October, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Highland Lake Grange Hall, located at the corner of Route 11 and Chase Hill Road in East Andover. In addition to various items and baked goods, there will also be pre-made meals for sale. All proceeds go toward the fund for repaving the church parking lot.
■The Andover Fish and Game Club will hold its annual Famous Beef BBQ on Saturday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Andover Elementary Middle School. In addition to barbecue, the meal includes salads, rolls, homemade beans and corn on the cob, with strawberries and ice cream for dessert. The cost is $14 for adults and $6 for children under age 12. ■ Andover author Amy Makechnie will read from and talk about her just-published middle-grade novel “Ten Thousand Tries” on Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Stone Chapel on the village green in Andover. She’ll take questions from the audience about the book and about her writing process. Autographed copies will be available for purchase and refreshments will be served.

■The Book Discussion Group at the Boscawen Public Library is meeting on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to exchange feedback on the novel “The Silkworm,” by Robert Galbraith. Weekly activities at the library include the Bone Builders on Mondays and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m., the Craft Group on Mondays at 2 p.m., yoga classes at 9 a.m., and Preschool Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. This week’s Preschool Storytime will be with New Hampshire children’s author, Mary Lyn Ray. An age-appropriate craft activity will follow after the story.
■Donations to the BackPack Program are being accepted until Friday. Monetary contributions would also be much appreciated. Checks can be made out to the Town of Boscawen. Donated items can be dropped off at Franklin Savings Bank, Town Offices, the police station, Boscawen Elementary School and Elektrisola. ■Vacation Bible School for children in grades K-12 is being held at Sovereign Grace Fellowship on Aug. 19-23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Fellowship has a free dinner on Aug. 21 beginning at 4:30 p.m. inside the church.
■Old Home Day returns to Boscawen on Aug. 28 with events and activities all day, including a parade and fireworks. More information will be provided in future columns.

■The Merrimack Valley School Board will meet Monday at 7:15 p.m. at the high school. Agenda items are listed online at mvsdpride.org. Two agenda items include public comments for those interested in speaking up about the Small Schools Study and the inclusion of closing the Webster Elementary School. ■Webster Old Home Day is Aug. 21. Come and join the fun. Parade registration is at 9:30 a.m. with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Games at the park follow the parade, with live music provided by Bow Junction. Bring your picnic lunch and spend the day!
■The Hopkinton Fair is on, and that means The First Congregational Church of Webster needs your help for the church fundraiser Sept. 2-6. This is the church’s largest fundraiser and needs volunteers to make it happen. Sign up to work at the church booth by calling Terry at 648-2639.
