A My Turn-length rant from Archie (excuse me) Bill Bunker? A Letter to the Editor-long rant isn’t long enough? Really? As if our ten-year failure in Vietnam and Russia’s ten-year failure in Afghanistan weren’t enough from which to learn about the folly of such adventurism, our own 20-year failure to bring about a desired completion to whatever our purposes were in Afghanistan (can anyone successfully sum up what our purposes were apart from knocking off Bin Laden?) have certainly justified Biden’s “enough is enough.”
Of course it’s embarrassing to messily pull out of a messy war we shouldn’t have messily entered in the first place. The lesson to learn is not Bunker’s “impeach Biden.” The lessons are these: One, don’t get involved in other states’ civil wars and two, don’t get involved in any land war in the world, especially in the Middle East and Asia. Let’s stop using failed states’ civil wars as testing grounds for new weapons. And, veterans, I do thank you for your service to our country, but I do not thank the presidents and politicians who have gotten you into the messes you’ve had to endure. And I thank President Biden for getting us out of at least one of these messes.
