The leaves haven’t quite changed yet, but there’s already been some shake ups in this week’s round of Capital Class.
Pollsters took a broader look at area teams and while there may be some differences in the class rankings, it is merely to reflect and diversify the standings.
With an ever-changing formula, we also have added a new feature called next-two. Next two looks at teams that would be 11 and 12 with a summary. Others receiving votes still remains at the bottom.
See if your team made the cut:
HOPKINTON GIRLS’ SOCCER (8-0): Hopkinton still holds the top spot after winning its last two games a combined 11-0. The Hawks get one of their best tests of the season when undefeated Gilford makes the trip in a battle of top Division III teams.
2. BOW GIRLS’ SOCCER (8-0): The Falcons undefeated season was on the ropes last week with tight games against Hollis-Brookline and Souhegan, but they managed to pull out the wins. Now, they travel to Milford in a rematch of last year’s state semifinal where the Falcons’ season ended.
3. CONCORD GOLF (17-1): Concord’s golfers have experience great success in 2021 and hold first place standings in Division I. The big win of the year was knocking off reigning state champion Exeter in match play.
4. Coe-Brown volleyball (7-1): The Bears hold one of the top spots amongst Division II teams and look to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to defending state champions Gilford.
5. John Stark field hockey (6-1): The Generals jump two spots after wins against Milford and Hollis-Brookline. John Stark has had five shutouts in its six wins.
6. HOPKINTON BOYS’ SOCCER (7-1): Hopkinton bounces up in the rankings as well after winning three straight games by a combined 15-6. The Hawks will look for their fourth consecutive win on Tuesday against St. Thomas Aquinas.
7. KEARSARGE BASS FISHING: As the reigning state champions, the Cougars are in primed position to repeat after Andrew Brahan and Sabian Griffin made state’s in last week’s qualifying round.
8. Gilford-Belmont football (3-1): Of all the area football teams, the Eagles are the lone squad that have more than one win on their record. They average 30 points a game and have only allowed a combined 13 in their last two.
9. PEMBROKE GIRLS’ SOCCER (7-0): The Spartans have only allowed three goals in net this season and are second in the Division II standings.
10. BOW BOYS’ SOCCER (6-2): The Falcons stumbled in a 1-0 match with Hollis-Brookline, but they still make the top-10 with games against Milford and Sanborn on the schedule.
11.CONCORD BOYS’ SOCCER (6-2-1): The Crimson Tide are winners of their last four, three of which have been by shut out. Matches this week are highlighted by hosting No. 1 Nashua South on Thursday.
12. CONCORD VOLLEYBALL (5-2): Concord keeps its competitive 2021 season afoot after three straight wins including a shutout over Portsmouth. After a match at Merrimack on Monday, the Tide host Bedford on Wednesday.
