Concord firefighters rushed to a car crash late Sunday morning then to a kitchen fire about 45 minutes later that displaced five people from their homes.

Concord firefighters helped extricate the driver of a car that had flipped on its side in an accident near the intersection of Loudon Road and Route 106, before extinguishing a kitchen fire in a dwelling near the Concord Airport.

The call about the car crash came in at 11:45 a.m., and crews kept the car steady with stabilization equipment so the driver could climb out the hatchback. Then, Engine 7 from the Heights Fire Station rushed to respond to a 12:31 p.m. call about a fire at 54 Canton Circle.

Smoke was billowing from a second floor window, and when crews entered the first floor of the building there was “moderate smoke” from the floor to the ceiling, according to Concord fire officials. After putting out the kitchen fire, which caused minor damage to the building, the fire department reached out to the Red Cross to help five temporarily displaced residents.

The fire was accidental, according to Concord Fire Marshal Paul Sirois, caused by a pot left attended on the stove.

While Concord’s companies were occupied with the fire at Canton Circle, fire and ambulance services from Hopkinton and Hooksett responded to a minor car incident at Centre Street and North State Street at 1:04 p.m.
